This has been a fantastic year for
the Northeast Region and the chapters within. The Association of Government Accountants
is Advancing Government Accountability and all of you should be proud to be
a part of this organization.
On Friday April 27th and
Saturday April 28th, 4 RVP Teams, Regional Coordinators along
with Chapter Leaders from Section 1 attended the Sectional Leadership
Meeting (SLM) in Indianapolis,
Indiana. At the meeting we discussed issues,
governance and planning matters which have affected chapters during the
year and best practices to be put to use for the upcoming year. We discussed ways of increasing
membership, planning events and better communications among the Northeast
Region and the chapters within.
There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming year.
One idea which was developed during the SLM was the
creation of a Northeast Region Website. Credit for this idea goes out to Mr.
Steven Neuman who is the RVP Elect
Designate. All chapters will
have access to this website, event postings can be posted on this website
and improved communication between the chapters would be accomplished with
this website. The website
address is: http://members.aol.com/blumenie/NEREGION/index2.htm
Let’s look at the Chapter Recognition
Points and compare the current program year to the prior one. You will see that we, as a Region
and the individual chapters within have had quite a successful year.

The theme for this past year was to
get excited to serve with AGA’s mission of
Advancing Government Accountability.
The excitement has truly happened! We have and still are:
•
Providing Quality Education
•
Fostering Professional Development and
Certification, and
•
Supporting Standards & Research
It’s hard to believe the AGA
Program Year is almost over. It
has been a wonderful year and as I stated earlier, there is a lot to look
forward to. I’m glad to have
attended events and Executive Board meetings at the Northern New Jersey, Trenton and New York
Capital Chapters. AGA is a
great professional organization to belong to and the Advancement of
Government Accountability depends on this organization. VIVA AGA! I wish everyone a very enjoyable
summer and will continue to serve you well in the future.
The New York
Chapter is an active chapter for the second year in a row after a few
dormant years and is now considered a strong chapter. Special congratulations go out to
Ken Sifontes, President of the New York Chapter
and the rest of the chapter leadership. The NY Chapter’s future also
looks promising with new members on the executive board.
The New York
Capital Chapter is as strong as ever and is a chapter to emulate. Congratulations go out to Marcella
Junco, President of the New York Capital Chapter and the rest of the
chapter leadership. The Trenton
Chapter is also quite strong and likewise, a chapter to emulate. Thank you to Jackie Shelly,
President and the chapter leadership for another excellent year. This just tells part of the
story about the Northeast Region’s success.
The Puerto
Rico Chapter is currently a work in progress and Jim Cox, RVP Elect is
putting a lot of effort into getting it back on its feet.

Lots of thanks
go out to the RVP Team, Regional Coordinators and Chapter Leaders. Kirk Schanzenbach, Regional Chapter
Development and Assistance Coordinator is
making some progress in the potential creation of a Western New York
Chapter as well as a Rome,
New York Chapter.
John Ritchberg Regional Membership and Early Careers
Coordinator, David Kaschak Regional Certification
Coordinator and Jim Cox, Regional Education Coordinator have been
instrumental as part of the success of the Regional Leadership team. Thanks
to all of you for a very successful year.
Linda Zinzow
will be the next Education Regional Coordinator and we wish her all the
best.
Mr. Steven Neuman,
RVP Elect Designate is looking forward to serving as part of the RVP Team. I am sure he will provide assistance
whenever necessary. Mr. Neuman is already off to a great start with the new
website. Thanks Steve.
Mr. Joe Guider is the Immediate Past
RVP and a terrific mentor. Mr.
Guider has been instrumental leading our region to the success which is
continuing today.
As you may be aware, Rick Fair is the
President Elect of AGA. Not
only is Rick Fair the President Elect, he is from the Trenton Chapter which
is in our Region!
